No cookie skills needed for this Luau Cookie Decorating Station! This is a super fun and easy activity for your summer luau party.

I really didn’t know how big of a hit this would be, but my middle child called it the “Best Day Ever” when he finished his cookie design and if you know my Max…you know that’s saying something!
Ridiculously EASY Luau Activity
You should also know that I am TERRIBLE at baking and decorating. It’s not my thing…so you KNOW I’ve made this Luau Cookie Decorating Station is pretty much fool-proof.
You’ll also notice that my daughter is the only child in these pictures. My boys participated, but she was the only one presentable enough to appear in this post – I’m pretty sure my four year old was still in his jammies at 4pm when I took these.
It’s the blogger life – we throw parties for no one…but I promise you can do this and still invite guests over! It’s so easy.
What you’ll need for this Luau Cookie Decorating Station
I pretty much just searched through the cake decorating section at the craft store for any tropical themed sprinkles and chocolate molds. These are the products I used, but feel free to be creative!

- Sugar Cookie Dough (yup, these are store bought)
- Wire Cooling Rack
- Wax Paper
- Cake Frosting
- Teal or Blue Food Dye
- Icing Bags
- Cookie Icing
- Sprinkles
To make the Ocean Frosting
- Make cookies according to package instructions, then let cool completely on a wire rack.
- Place the rack over wax paper or cookie pan (just be aware things are going to get messy) and space cookies out so they’re not touching.
- Grab a glass and place a piping bag in the glass, then fold the ends of the piping bag over the side of it.
- Transfer frosting to a piping bag and make sure the end is secured so frosting doesn’t leak, but don’t tie it.
- Heat the frosting in the microwave for about 30 seconds at 80% heat.
- Add in food coloring to the bag. Note: amount depends on the type of food coloring you use – for liquid use more, for concentrated use a very small amount.
- Squeeze food coloring around in the bag, but don’t mix it completely, then cut off the end of the bag.
- Pour the icing over the cookies until completely covered.
- If you need to, you can scrape the icing off the wax paper or pan and pour it back into the piping bag.
- Repeat until all the cookies are covered. Note: I used 1 can of frosting for 2 dozen cookies.
- Let frosting set before decorating at your Luau Cookie Decorating Station!

But the cookie decorating station was super simple.
I laid out some Luau Tropical Cutouts on a easy to clean up table, laid out the plates and decorating supplies and called it good.
As you can see, this luau cookie decorating station looks great and gives the kids the opportunity to be creative. Everyone was so proud of their luau cookie creations and it was adorable to see!
I also love that this doubles as luau party food and it doesn’t have to look perfect! You could also try this decorating cupcakes and cakes.
